Their impact on folk music and folk musical life on Armenia is discussed with special attention to the "adjustments" which were necessary for the success of this institution. Folk ensembles have long been emblems of Armenian national culture which might explain how they have survived the collapse of the Soviet Union and its Marxist-Leninist policies which were these orchestras' very raison d'�tre.

Just got this book of great, short, humorous poems. I chuckled out loud several times. Kids (and their parents) of any age will enjoy them- especially boys (and girls) that like a touch of the "gross" (but hilarious) factor. A great way to introduce kids to poetry, since many of the short poems have a great, funny, unexpected turn at the end. The artwork, (also done by the author) is also great. (Tim used to work on Disney feature films).

Cox also uses these young women's experiences to tell larger stories of Detroit's history, the Great Migration, deindustrialization, the politics of respectability, and the construction of Black girls and women as social problems. With Shapeshifters Cox gives a voice to young Black women who find creative and non-normative solutions to the problems that come with being young, Black, and female in America.�

Very well done

Although there are probably as many theodicies as there are people in the world, Stephen Davis does a fine job selecting scholars who represent various, major viewpoints on the classic problem of evil to elucidate their positions. John Roth represents a theodicy of protest whereby it is insinuated that God may not be totally good. God, says Roth, has a dark side and so must be persuaded by human protest and prayer to do what is right. Hick, of course, represents the position of an Irenean theodicy where God is portrayed as simply unable to stop all evil since evil is born our of free will and God cannot contradict the free will He gave us (lest it cease being free will). More than that, however, God has created a world in which trouble and evil exist in order that, by virtue of our free will, we might grow in character through the hardship. God, says Hick, is in the business of soul-making and has an overall plan for us as His creation to grow into spiritual maturity through the joys and sufferings of this life. Davis takes the classic Christian perspective position that evil is the result of human sin, that Jesus died to redeem us of that sin. We are responsible for the evil in the world, but God has created a way to redeem the world by taking sin on Himself in the form of Jesus Christ. By recieving Christ into our lives, not only are we promised a future in eternity without evil, but we are able to grow through the sufferings of life instead of shun them as worthless. He argues that there is no logical contradiction between the Biblical God (omnipotent and omnibenevolent) and the existence of evil in the world. Griffin represents the process theology position that God is evolving with the creation and so is learning as He goes. Matter, says Griffin, is eternal like God and has its own kind of "free will." Complexity in the arrangement of matter, furthermore, is tied to the amount of free will something has. Thus a rock can do less evil and yet God is less able to use it for good, but something as complex (and thus having more free will) as a human is capable of doing much more evil by resisting God and much more good by submitting to God. Finally, Sontag takes a highly skeptical position about God's goodness. God is unpredictable and violent at times and all we can do is hope for the best. We must acknowledge God's existence and power, but Sontag's god is semi-demonic in nature which explains evil in the world and why he doesn't stop it.
Of course, this small review doesn't even begin to scratch the surface of the indepth and well written arguments of each of these scholars. The book is complex enough for college and graduate classes but written with the lay-person in mind as well (the writers are careful to define their terms in most cases). Also, I really enjoyed the fact that each contributor has the opportunity to critique the other's theodicies and then the chance to defend against the other's critiques. This point/counterpoint approach was excellent and informative.
My only critique of this book is the subtitle ("Live Options in Theodicy"). While the five views represented in this book are indeed reflective of five major worldviews of the problem of evil, they are not the only *live* options. To suggest so implies that any theodicy significantly different than those represented in the book is not a valid option. But because the problem of evil is more of a mystery and less of a logical problem to be solved with a fancy syllogism, it can be approached in a number of ways -- not just five.

A great overview of responses to the problem of evil

Though some of the authors (particularly Phillips and Roth) do not offer theodicies proper, this books provides an excellent overview of theodicies and other responses to the problem of evil from some the foremost philosopher/theologians engaging this topic. While the interactions between the authors following each essay allows for further discussion beyond the initial essays, it could benefit strongly from an atheistic author strongly arguing for the problem of evil (though the atypical theologies of Roth, Griffen, and Phillips to offer some support for the problem of evil).

In 14 knowing, heartfelt poems, Grimes (Come Sunday) invites readers to witness the friendship that blossoms between Damon, an African-American boy without a father, and Blue, a tough-looking man who has lost his son to the streets. At first Damon isn't sure what to make of "This rugged dude/ Who some folk think/ Looks fierce in clothes/ of midnight black." But the boy quickly discovers Blue's "harmless, gentle-giant side." In between shooting hoops and outings to the park, Blue fortifies Damon's values and self-confidenceAthe very things that prevent Damon from resorting to the violence and antisocial behavior prevalent in his urban world. Though each of these accomplished poems could easily stand alone, together they form an enticing story arc. In his picture book debut, Lagarrigue doesn't interpret Grimes's words literallyAhis Blue looks approachable. Readers never see, for example, the teeth that startle the boy ("one gold, three cracked"), and Blue's getup doesn't match the text's description of perpetual shades and black leather. The deep-hued acrylic paintings have a rough, slightly smudgy texture, and they demonstrate a remarkable color sense. Unexpected fields of sharp blues and greens blend into the gritty cityscapes, and blocks of text are set against canvases thinly brushed with paint in palettes that complement the facing illustration. The art creates an ideal setting for the text: the look is inescapably urban but also subtly lyrical. Ages 6-up. (May)

Grade 2-5-A child's suspicion of the new man in his mother's life grows into admiration and love in this set of linked poems. "When We First Met," young Damon recalls, "I circle, look him up and down and let/Him know his grin's not winning points with me," but all resistance melts in the face of Blue's respect, his quiet strength, his willingness to teach and to listen, and to look out for Damon's safety. By the end, Damon is hoping, one day, to be "Like Blue"; "Not fierce/In black leather/Or built like/A heavyweight/Boxing machine/But like that/Other Blue I've seen/The one who/Says he cares/And shows it." Lagarrigue debuts with a set of twilit, impressionistic, sparsely populated street scenes in which Blue, with his shaven head and heavy frame, leans hugely but attentively toward his diminutive companion. Damon mentions his mother several times, but because she appears in the illustrations only once, she remains a background presence as man and boy bond.

This against-the-odds book from Grimes (Jazmin's Notebook, 1998, etc.) tells of an African-American boy living in a neighborhood that cuts him no slack, and the man who helps keep his feet grounded and his self-esteem steady against the occasional buffeting of his peers. Damon and his mother have just moved to a new apartment when an old friend of the mother's introduces himself: Blue, a rather steely character wrapped in shades and enigma. Damon (who has just lost his father) is wary of Blue; he gives the man a chance only when it becomes evident that Blue is not about to move in on Damon's home turf. Blue (who ``had'' a son, now lost to the streets or worse) offers advice of haiku-like simplicity, teaching Damon to be his own man: anger is a dangerous waste, fear useless unless subverted, men don't hit women. Grimes gets across more subtle life lessons as well in both rhymed and unrhymed verse, on the dignity of work, and the sheer physical pleasure of sport when competition isn't the sole motivating factor. It is a story of a boy who is old for his age, but not callousand perhaps saved from callousness by Blue. Lagarrigue's illustrations are brooding gardens of color that hold the forces of disorder and menace at bay, while Damon's cool earnestnessas well as his courage and independencebrighten each page. I have a new favorite author. This book was really everything I like in a adult romance it had a hot alpha male, amazing sex scenes, and a sweet romance.

Rose was getting over a cheating ex-boyfriend and grieving the loss of her Grandmother while staying at her grandma's beach house. Rose meets the new hot guy next door and he changes everything for her.

Sam is one of Rose's long time friends best mate and he bought the house next to her grandma's. Sam had been vising and spending time with Rose's grandma before she had passed. Rose's grandma gave Sam some letters to pass along to Rose that might lead her to know who her father is. The string of events leads the two of them together into a amazing love story.

Sam is also holding on to a secret that threatens their relationship but it also keeps you turning the pages to try and figure out what is. There was so much I loved about the book their chemistry together, the story of her parents, Sam's secret, the relationship between her and her friends. My favorite part that really made me lol was the seagulls so funny. I am looking forward to reading more books by L.J. Dee. I have read two so far and loved them both.

Just purchased this book yesterday, and I could not put it down. I even took a half day at work because I wanted to keep reading. You are an absolute genius LJ DEE! ! I just finished Stranger and WOW!!!! I can't even choose a favorite because they are all so good!!! I just adore your writing!!! It's the perfect chemistry of love, suspense, heartbreak, jealousy, and of course my favorite - erotic scenes. Samuel Oscar Lawrence delicious, mmmHmmmm like chocolate cake. I have a new favorite Author, and she is so inspiring!!!

No ha sido suficiente,el libro para calmar el ansia,que Freya Asgard,ha dejado en mi con esta novela.Esteban,Nicole,con ese Amor,que ha sufrido en partes iguales,dos seres,el miedo de Nicole,lo que ha pasada sus desesperanzas,su enfermadad,Lucas un chico que esta Necesitado de Amor maternal,y Cristobal un lobo,donde en realidad habita una oveja,maltratada Por la vida.Si es increible la novela,la recomiendo solo que te quedas con mas ganas,espero la 2da,parte imagino debe ser increible.

Excellent Camaro reference

The Camaro White Book is an excellent reference when Camaro shopping. I carry it in my glovebox in case the errant Camaro presents itself. It is somewhat lacking in describing year to year changes, RPO additions and deletions. It some cases, it pretty much repeats the same info year by year. Most Camaro fans thrive on technical data; what gear ratio was available with a 6 speed vs. automatic and so on. Not as comprehensive as it could be, but still the best Camaro "bible" out there.

Should be standard equipment for Camaro fans and owners!

I purchased this book after Camaro production ended (temporarily, it turns out) in 2002, after buying the equally useful "Corvette Black Book." It's particularly valuable to buyers of these wonderful cars, and helps to sort out the real, original cars from the less desirable ones. Want to know about rare option packages like 1LE, or rare models such as police pursuit cars? It's all in there. There are many Camaro books on the market, but none of them approach the level of detail this one contains.
