I have purchased a couple of copies of this book to give to friends with children. We have all found it very easy to follow and fun for kids. (Just don't tell them how good it is for their health!) I look forward to any future books by Donna Freeman.

Don Campbell's reputation runs the gamut from serious educator bent on improving the health and intelligence of his audience to clever marketer, making a fast buck from specially trademarked pseudoscience. In The Mozart Effect for Children, Campbell explains early on why Mozart's music is thought to have such amazing powers, and while he cites no statistics or studies, his lyrical explanations of Mozart's simplicity and elegance will have many reader's heads nodding in agreement--it's difficult to disagree with "his music is at once deeply mysterious and accessible, and above all, without guile". A few pages are devoted to descriptions of studies done by French specialist Dr. Alfred Tomatis, and "Spotlight on Specialist" pages throughout the book are an attempt to add a more clearly scientific feel. Still, most of what passes for science in this book is anecdotal and will not make a satisfying read for those looking for original research.

Each chapter is devoted to a particular age, from prenatal to mid-elementary school, and parents and educators can find excellent musical menus, practical suggestions, and entertaining games to play at the end of every chapter. The menus include suggestions for appropriate times to play the various pieces, as well as a brief description of the type of music, helpful in case you're not immediately familiar with "Adagio from the Divertimento" or "Concertante from the Serenade No. 9". Games range from simple variations on pat-a-cake to rhythmic chanting designed to improve memory skills, and parents will enjoy playing at least as much as their children will. About the Author

A Texas native, Don Campbell studied with Nadia Boulanger at the Fontainebleau Conservatory of Music in France and has worked with Jean Houston, Leonard Bernstein and other musicians, healers and mind/body researchers.

Over the years, his quest to harness the healing and creative powers of sound and music has taken him to 40 countries, including Haiti, Russia, Israel, Greece, Tibet, Indonesia and Thailand, where he has studied indigenous culture, taught and worked with children and young adults, and given his own performances. He has taught and performed in most of the capitals of Europe and lived in Japan for several years, serving as music critic for a Tokyo newspaper.

He founded the Institute of Music, Health and Education in 1988, and is known to the public through frequent television and radio appearances and international lecture tours. He lives in Boulder, Colorado.

This book is outstanding. As a parent and nearly a grand parent, as well as a music therapist, I welcome this clear and creative book. Campbell is neither elitest nor arrogant. He inspires and informs. All types of music are included and the book takes a step by step, age by age, approach to brain and body development. He shows us that The Mozart Effect goes back to research in France over forty years ago and continues in centers throughout the world today to help children with ADD, speech problems and dyslexia.

This book will make me a smarter parent. I am amazed at how this book blends the practical, the scientific and the artistic into common sense. I am not a fan of Classical music, but this book has helped me understand more about the healthy qualities of music.
Mr. Campbell gives me the evidence I need to show my school district that music classes must be included in every child's schoolday. The book is well referenced and gives many ways to help children improve their minds with music. This book sings the heart, the brain and the body of music!

About the Author
John W. Santrock received his Ph.D. from the College of Education and Human Development at the University of Minnesota. He taught at the University of Charleston and the University of Georgia before joining the faculty at the University of Texas at Dallas. He has worked as a school psychologist and currently teaches educational psychology every year at the undergraduate level. In 2006, John received the University of Texas at Dallas Excellence in teaching award. His research has included publications in the Journal of Educational Psychology that focus on the contextual aspects of affectively-toned cognition and children's self-regulatory behavior as well as teachers' perceptions of children from divorced families. He has been a member of the editorial boards of Developmental Psychology and Child Development. I was very disappointed and upset with this purchase and more than likely ...

When I received the book, I received an international edition, not standard edition that's advertised and when I tried to return the book, the seller would not let me return it. So now I'm stuck with a book that I can't even sell back to get even half my money back. I was very disappointed and upset with this purchase and more than likely won't by from this seller again.

When I first saw the cover of this book, I fell in love. I loved the coloring and the image made me curious. Then I read the synopsis and knew that this was a book that I had to check out.

Never Say Never follows the story of Haley and Aiden. Haley’s story is not an easy one and captured my heart from the very beginning. Haley is broken and is struggling to move on with her life. But that is easier said than done. The things that she has to deal with are enough to break just about anyone, but she is just taking it one day, one moment at a time. On the outside, Aiden looks like he’s got the perfect life. He’s rich. He’s handsome. He’s also an actor, and boy does he really know how to play the part. Only, Aiden has his own demons that he’s fighting. He uses his cocky attitude and drowns his sorrows in prescription meds and alcohol to keep everyone at bay; never letting anyone see who he really is. That is until he meets Haley. Haley is the first person to see beyond the facade he puts up. Together, the two them just might be able to heal and bring out some light in the darkness that lives inside them….

My only complaint was the pacing. If you know me, this is something that I really take issue with. I think this story started off with one heck of a bang, really pulling me into the story. But then somewhere around the middle, it started to drag. That was so disappointing to me, because it was going so well. The one good thing is that it does in fact pick up again, taking you for one last crazy ride.

Overall, I thought Never Say Never was a pretty good read. It is truly a beautiful story of loss, moving on, and finding a second chance at both love and life. I found the plot to be interesting and it held my interest. I loved how flawed and damaged the characters were and the issues they both had to overcome. This book had my emotions all over the place, but gave me a very satisfying ending.

Best book ever

This was my favorite book ever written by Emily Goodwin. I have read all of her other books but this one was so heartfelt and swoony all in one. If you have never read anything from her before this is the one to read. I was captured from the very first page and couldn't put it down till I was finished. I highly recommend this and each and everyone of her books she writes across multi genres and you will also fall in love.

"It's broken but beautiful."

This book is not just a modern day fairytale story of a hotshot Hollywood celebrity and a normal, country girl who falls in love and lives happily ever after. It's that and more. Never Say Never is about family, loss, hope, compassion, and life. It's about getting back up to your feet when you feel like you're down on the ground and want to stay there because it hurts too much to move. The author was successful in writing something that deeply touches every aspect of life and weave them all together into a beautiful story that will touch its readers. I know it touched me in a way that I was crying just from reading the Prologue. I loved how emotional it was without the author trying too hard to word everything into something more than it is. The simplicity of the storytelling but still having an impact says a lot about Emily Goodwin's talent as a story-writer.

Aiden and Haley were easy characters to connect and fall in love with. Each of their struggles compliments each other, thus, making a good balance between their own strengths and weaknesses. Haley is also one of a few book heroines which I easily liked and I don't easily like heroines, I mostly find myself connecting more with the guys. Haley was gentle and her love for the horses was admirable and inspiring. It's impossible for Aiden not to end up falling in love with someone like Haley. Their chemistry is undeniable, and with the pain Aiden is also carrying in his heart, I love that he was still open to express his love to someone.

I loved everything about this book and I'm glad I "discovered" another author for me to follow! Where have I been hiding all this time?
