About the Author
Kareem Abdul-Jabbar is the NBA's all-time leading scorer and a six-time NBA champion. He is also one of a handful of influential and respected black men in America who has a national platform as a regular contributing columnist for the Washington Post and TIME, where he shares his thoughts on some of the most socially relevant and politically controversial topics facing our nation today. After 50 years as an athlete, activist, and New York Times bestselling author, he offers his perspectives on how we can work together to solve some of these issues as a nationally recognized speaker who regularly appears on the lecture circuit. His book, Writings on the Wall was just released in Fall 2016 by Time Books and offers his personal perspectives on political issues facing America today.
In 2012, Kareem was appointed to be the U.S. Cultural Ambassador by then Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton. Currently he serves as the chairman of his Skyhook Foundation whose mission is to "Give Kids a Shot That Can't be Blocked" by bringing educational opportunities to under-served communities through innovative outdoor environmental learning. Kareem's most recent projects include the HBO Sports documentary, Kareem: Minority of One, which debuted in early November 2015 as HBO's most watched and highest rated sports documentary. His debut novel Mycroft Holmes-a mystery novel and the first of an action/mystery series based on Sherlock Holmes's savvy older brother-was released by Titan Publishing in September 2015. Following the success of his novel, the comic, Mycroft Holmes & the Apocalypse Handbook was developed into a series of 5 comic books.

A must read for every father

When I started to read this book I really didn't know what to expect. I'm very interested in books about relationships but don't usually read books on sports. I was pleasantly surprised as I couldn't put this book down it was so good. It really helped me understand the value of a strong male relationship that every young man should have. I highly recommend this book and I am going to buy it and give it as graduation and Father's Day gifts.

A true jazz duet of two powerful stories weaved together on and off the court

This is a gem! I have admired both Kareem and John Wooden before this book but it was a joy reading how these powerful stories weaved together with strong individuality but also the shared mutual journey. It was a true jazz duet! It was very impactful for the reader to have a window into Kareem's and coach Wooden's faults, life challenges, and humanness. The respect that they had for each other permeated the pages. This is a must read for all, not just for the basketball lovers, but the life lessons and wisdom applies to all of our lives.

Well written, insightful

Books about John Wooden should be required reading. You always come away learning something. What I enjoyed most about this one is how Kareem demonstrates how 2 thoughful, well intentioned people can have different views based on their life individual experiences, and be able to learn from each other's perspectives.
